Living well at home for longer!

More New Zealanders are asking the same question: "How can I stay living in my home, even as my needs change?". Most people assume that moving into a retirement village or residential care is the natural next step when life changes. But for a large proportion of New Zealanders, remaining at home for as long as possible, in a familiar environment, close to community, routines and memories is what matters most.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
With growing pressure on the health system including longer wait times, rising costs and limited availability of alternate residence, options for those with functional change are limited. As a result, more people are rethinking what comes next, what are the alternative options.
That's where Liveable comes in.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH
At Liveable we take a different approach.  We are a North Shore based team combining occupational therapy, architectural design and building services with a focus on building and adapting homes to better suit the way people live both now and in the future.  Liveable was co-founded by Jo Dick (occupational therapist), Josh Edington-Lalande (architectural designer) and Jason Mann (builder) bringing together three disciplines under one roof.  It is a practical and thoughtful approach that looks at how someone moves through their home, what challenges they face and how their environment can be improved to support independence, safety and ease of use.  While often associated with ageing, this approach is for anyone at any age experiencing a change in how they function, whether it’s a health condition, injury, illness or simply planning for the future.

WHAT THIS CAN LOOK LIKE
For some it might be simple changes that could include improving access, rethinking layout or adding features that make daily routines easier for example: equipment.  For others, it can involve a more considered new build or renovation such as redesigning a bathroom, improving flow between spaces or planning for future needs and multi-generational living. Every solution is tailored with the goal of creating a home that not only works well but still feels like home.

LIVEABLE – ASSESS. DESIGN. BUILD: HOW IT WORKS.
We begin with an in-home assessment to understand how you live and what matters most to you. From there, we develop tailored solutions that may include layout changes, accessible bathrooms and kitchens, wider doorways, integrated safety features, or multi-generational living options. Our team manages the full process from concept through to completion, ensuring every detail is thoughtfully considered and delivered to a high standard.

At its core, Liveable is about choice, giving people the ability to remain in the home they love, supported by design that enhances both safety and everyday living.
