Our round-up of posts from Belmont businesses on IG that we’ve double-tapped (liked) and a Q&A with Amaresh from @smokelandbbqnz

There is barbecue, and then there is the melt-in-your-mouth art of low 'n’ slow. For Belmont locals, that distinctive aroma drifting down the block means one thing: Smokeland BBQ has arrived, bringing serious pitmaster credentials with a uniquely Kiwi finish. At the helm is chef and co-owner Amaresh Kumar, whose long-standing obsession with perfecting smoked meats finally found its ideal home right here on the Shore. "We have been blown away by the incredible welcome from complete strangers," says Amaresh. "Belmont has that classic, welcoming 'know-your-neighbour' spirit – it’s the exact kind of community vibe we dreamed of joining."

Smokeland is the culmination of years spent testing recipes, serving up samples, and listening closely to local meat lovers. The result is a refined hybrid style that fuses traditional Texas low 'n' slow smoking techniques with classical French precision. The barbecue is remarkably juicy, tender, and layered with rich, complex flavour. Amaresh’s golden rule is simple: never compromise on the cut. By sourcing only premium-grade meats, the quality is undeniable from the very first bite.
